There is a plan in place by Donegal County Council (DCC) to demolish The Leisure Centre/Swimming Pool in Buncrana.
There is no design in place for any new pool to replace it.
βAny new swimming pool that may be put there in the future would need to be sustainable before any further plans would be put in place.β (say DCC)
βSwimming Pool is slipping awayβ
The possibility of a new swimming pool being built in Buncrana is slipping away, the 3 local councillors and DCC are loosing interest.
The Inishowen Development Partnership, (IDP) has financed a feasibility study for a pool to be built in Carndonagh, because of the lack of progress towards rebuilding a new pool in Buncrana.
The pool should never have been closed in the first place and the real reasons for closure remain a secret.
The existing committee who were part of the closing of the pool should resign.
They presided over the removal of a vital health & Leisure amenity for the people of Buncrana and they should hold their heads in shame for what they did.
They have remained silent ever since, their inactivity is pushing the day further down the road when any possibility of a reopening will occur.
Buncrana needs a new swimming pool committee to push hard for a new pool to be built and for this derelict building to be turned into something the people of Buncrana and Inishowen can be proud of.
