The Irish government and the EU have designated the last remaining eco-diverse area in Buncrana as a SAC
The town was privileged to have achieved this as it adds to the value of the town as a rich area with a diverse environment.
The potential value to the town in the future is immense with eco-tourism fast becoming a thing of the future.
Local tourist industry will stand to gain as a result of our enhanced environmental infrastructure.
Businesses on the Main Street stand to gain more than most, because they can boast about their rich eco-diversity in the town and it will be hosted on the internet world wide and will attract visitors from all over the world to the area.
The future is looking good.
BUT ! (there is always a BUT)
Unfortunately, there are always a few among us who want to spoil the party, they want to cash in the asset NOW for their own selfish gain and get some immediate benefit in cash upfront, by attacking the land that is protected by law and to treat it as a “cash-cow”
Their actions will come back to bit us all who live here, if they succeed. (it looks like they may do, because the people who are responsible for looking after this area are asleep at the wheel) this area of Inishowen will be diminished and we can look at the pictures of this once beautiful area in the local library.
What will we tell our grandchildren. ? ?
“Once upon a time, here in Buncrana we had a beautiful diverse environment, full of wild and wonderful insects, bushes, birds, butterflies and stuff that was not yet discovered.
That was until one day a few people with money decided to make more money from that land and took it all away………….”
