What’s wrong with a natural flowing river?

Tony Grant theweepaper@gmail.com Edition 2 March 2021

The Council are interfering with the natural flow of the Crana River as it runs through Swan Park.
The evidence is there to be seen by all, they are over engineering the river at this point.

  • The picture shows how they have introduced steel and concrete into the river and they have cut down many trees and damaged the root systems of many others as they they re-engineer Swan Park.
  • If Swan Park is to retain it’s unique natural character and beauty, it’s biodiversity needs to be respected.
  • They choose the narrowest point of the river and they made it even narrower with two concrete platforms extending into the river.
  • Our beautiful Swan Park is being re-engineered into a city park.

Action Needed inside Donegal County Council

  1. They need to employ someone with environmental skills, to advise on how to best support the environment.
  2. They need ongoing staff training in that area.
  3. They need to listen to local environmental groups.
  4. They need to update their complaints procedures, because it takes over 30 days for them to give a Ref No
  5. No Ref No means NO Complaint. (Catch 22)
